July 4th Picnic and General Meeting

About 20 people attended the July 4th picnic and general meeting at Spring Street Park. One item that arose at the meeting was that several women are interested in latihan on Tuesday mornings. Jim has checked with Karen, who rents the house. She will get back to him with the dates that are not yet booked. Going forward she will let renters know that the upstairs latihan hall will be used on Tuesdays (which includes the bathroom outside the former women’s quiet room). If you want to know when the hall is available, please contact Rayma, who will have the dates. Keep an eye on this weekly email to see when it’s available every week. One caveat: women will need to wipe down surfaces in the bathroom before leaving on Tuesdays, so it will be disinfected before the renters use it again.

July 4th Picnic and General Meeting

I hope you are planning to start your July 4th festivities with an in-person Latihan, followed by our first in-person social event in a long time- a picnic and General Meeting at Spring Street Park. The picnic is a potluck, but to keep it simple we would like people to bring cold dishes. That way we will not have to do too much running back and forth to the downstairs kitchen. it will be great to see you all!

The General Meeting agenda is as follows:

Check-in, Helper report, financial report, repairs completed and needed, do we want to create a homier space in the Mens’ hall for meetings, etc., especially for fall/winter?  Will this have an impact on possible future hall rentals?

Building Repairs Fund

I am looking for members willing to contribute over and above their regular contributions to build up savings for our next repair.  iTrip bookings for the remainder of the year will be able to cover some of our costs. Current bookings indicate that income from Spring Street Center will not be enough.

Our next big project is to repair the siding on the South side of our building. We need to replace both the siding and the shingles there. Current cost estimates are around $22K.

I am beginning fund raising efforts now to cover these costs.

Matching Funds needed

Our family pledges $500 toward this effort, which we will contribute immediately. I am looking for other families willing to either put up other matching funds, or just contribute to this effort.  Please consider donating so that we can preserve our building now and into the future for ourselves and Subud members to come.

Please earmark donations “Building Repairs Fund” when contributing to it.

SGS Treasurer Summary Report for June

June 25, 2021

If You Haven’t Donated, Now Is The Time

Your committee appreciates everyone’s financial support. Even though Spring Street Center is able to provide some of our income needs. It is not able to cover all costs. Your donations, on average, cover only 51% of our costs.

Our goal for 2021 is to have everyone contribute something toward the upkeep of our center.  By giving a little each month, you become a part of  a membership dedicated to preserving our building for future Subud members. If you have not yet donated this year, please do so! If you need a reason to donate, please read the rest of this report. Thank you!

Future Expenses

We are trying to save for our next big project repairing the siding on the South side of our building, by replacing the siding and shingles. In attempting to put together an annual budget, I can see that with the current projected income from iTrips and member donations, we will need to fund raise further from members to cover these costs. The good news is that the costs for materials seems to have peaked for now. We will need to obtain an estimate closer to the time that the work is scheduled. Current cost estimates are around $22K.

Building Repairs Fund

We are looking for members who would be willing to contribute over and above their regular contributions so that we can both pay off our SPNW loan and build up savings for the next repair.  iTrip bookings for the remainder of the year will be able to cover some of our costs, but we anticipate that we will need additional contributions from the members. Earmark these donations for the building fund.

I pledge $500 toward this effort and am looking for matches this pledge, and to others who would be willing to put up matching funds.

Building Rentals

We had 7 rentals in June bringing in rental income of approximately $4,472.31. This will be deposited in July after the income statement is finalized.

We have not yet begun Hall Rentals.

Donations

Donations through June included one large annual donation, which will allow us to increase our monthly donation to the region and pay back a portion of our loan to Subud PNW.

Thank You to all who contribute. We hope that members who have not donated previously will now consider joining those who do so already.

If you believe we can handle our expenses through member contributions, please consider this:

On average this year, donations have covered roughly one half of our expenses. The rest has been covered by our enterprise. Every dollar donated by a member is appreciated.

Important! New name for donation checks to Subud Greater Seattle

Use only “Subud PNW – Seattle Center” on any future donations to our center.  Bank rules, recently changed, are delaying deposits.  Please be sure to change the “Pay To The Order Of” section of your handwritten or automatic withdrawn check from your account and use this name. If you intend to make your donation to the Region, please earmark your check Subud PNW.

Thanks for those who have setup monthly donations

Thanks to all our monthly donators who have a recurring donation sent from their bank.  You save on envelopes and stamps.  And, you don’t have to remind yourselves to write a check. These regular checks really help us meet our monthly commitments to the region and pay for our use of our facilities.

If you’d like to know how to set up a recurring donation to our group through your bank, please contact me, Oswald Norton.

July 4th Gathering

Yes, there will be some business discussed at our General Meeting that day after latihan, but mostly we will have the opportunity to gather together (finally!) and check in in person. We will have a potluck at Spring Street Park, right across from Spring Street Center. I am hoping to see many of you!

Could You Be Our Next Secretary?

The time is coming for a new committee. The last three newsletters have outlined the roles of Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer. Here are the activities of the Secretary:

-Take minutes of meetings.

-Store pertinent group documents (minutes, passwords, maintenance documents, and treasurer’s documents, etc.) in an organized and recoverable format.

Are you a good organizer and note-taker? Training and mentoring are being offered. Please consider.

SPNW in Need of Funds

During shelter in place, all the regional centers lost revenue, and had to cut their donations to the region. This has resulted in a budget shortfall for SPNW. If you can possibly afford an extra donation to the region, it will be greatly appreciated.
