Subud Gathering at Crescent Beach, Canada – June 23 to 25

Hi Everyone.

Hope you are all doing well and enjoying some good spring weather – now it seems to have eventually arrived!
I’m not sure who the best persons are to help promote our upcoming gathering at Crescent Beach?
Maybe you can help by forwarding the attached registration package as you see fit, and I hope that we might see some of you in June.
We always love to welcome our US brothers and sisters!!!
All the best,
Dave

Crescent Beach is a great venue. The folks are fun, and welcoming.
The Canadian dollar is worth 75 cents to our dollar.
Crescent Beach is a 20 mile drive north of the Blaine border.
Would you please put the invitation in the regional and Seattle newsletters?
If Leonard still does the Portland list server, I imagine he will publish it there.
Much love to each of you.
Robina

Another Note From Jim!

Yes, it is also Mother’s day, but there is a helper plan for a Bapak or Ibu talk followed by a potluck!

If you are available, you are invited.

Last week’s post included a piece about our gardening day, take a look if you missed it.

Notes from Jim

Garden day
Thank you volunteers for helping out this last Sunday for our garden day!
Ornamental plants were placed and planted, trees were trimmed, borders edged, bushes pruned, beds raked, sidewalks were tidied, and grass was mowed.
Let’s hear it for Marston, Oswald, Elisha, Dalton, Lisa, and Lucinda!
We had hoped to get a group photo, but when we were ready, some of our helpful volunteers had left.
Below are a few photographs.
Kedjiwaan day
We have the house reserved for an event  Sunday, May 14th.  Please ask the local helpers what they have in mind!
General meeting
We’ll have one in the basement hall or in the park across the street Sunday June 25.
We will present a proposed 12-month budget, a list of projects accomplished, and updates.

GARDEN DAY RESCHEDULED

GARDEN DAY RESCHEDULED
We will have the  garden day originally scheduled for last Sunday after latihan this Sunday April 30th.  We’ll have some tools, but if you prefer yours, please bring them- gloves especially!
Marston has kindly offered to coordinate, and plans to bring some plants to add to the garden.
This will be our Earth day event eight days late!

On another note, rental revenue is down, partially due to the current market and partially due to our monthly use of the house.  Unfortunately, donations have also dipped.  Please consider donating to help keep our group and space vibrant and beautiful!

Eastside Latihan

We had to give up the Bellevue church latihan venue due to very low attendance, but we have now been doing latihan in each other’s homes.  Oswald and Rayma hosted a dinner and latihan at their house this past Friday and the Cantrell’s will be hosting on Thursday the 27th of April.  We usually have a light meal with the host providing a soup dish and the rest providing bread, salad and dessert, starting around 6:30 with latihan around 8:00 PM.  If you would like to be notified for our next get together and latihan please let Rachman know (phone 206-468-5803 cell or home 425-822-5579).  We would love to have you join us!

SUBUD Greater Seattle | Facebook

Appropriately, earth day is the 22nd.

One donation box in women’s quiet room.

On another note, rental revenue is down, partially due to the current market and partially due to our monthly use of the house.  Unfortunately, donations have also dipped.  Please consider donating to help keep our group and space vibrant and beautiful!

Note from Rachman:  Consider having your bank mail a check each month or a direct deposit to the Subud account.  It is free, convenient and less of a hassle than writing a check.

Below is the last talk Bapak gave in Skymont, Virginia in 1970.  It was sent to me because many of my photos from that event were used in the talk.  It is in the Subud Library so you need to join the library or have an account to view it.  Listening to Bapak’s talks during Ramadan is a rich experience!

More Info on the Ramadan Fast

Note from Rachman:  I remember Bapak telling us that for Subud members 14 hours of fasting was enough.  He suggested that from around four in the morning till six in the evening was adequate.  Countries around the equator have more consistent times of light and dark than ones farther north.  As Subud members we have the ability to receive for ourselves what is correct for us.
Explanations of the Ramadan Calendar compiled from those given by Bapak, Mas Sudarto and by Mas
Prio.
=================================================
Eve of Ramadan: The way to observe Ramadan is to take a full bath, including hair washing, and also
cutting the hair and the nails, the evening before the fast. Then, after you are clean, to state your wish
to observe Ramadan as a sincere expression of your worship of Almighty God. Then stay up at night,
preferably spending the night together with other Subud brothers and sisters, in the home of a member
who is also observing Ramadan.

(The local mosque can clarify the time to begin and the time for breaking the fast.)

To break the fast, start slowly by drinking warm tea and a light snack; you can eat your dinner about half
an hour or an hour later. Bapak also recommends no sexual union during the whole month of Ramadan.
It is also beneficial to sleep as little as possible during Ramadan, not only on the Nights of Power.
_________________________________________________
Our fasting must also include abstention from the following:
a) We must not use our ears to listen to gossip, quarrels or bad words.
b) We must not use our mouth to say
 anything wrong or unkind.
c) We must not use the emotions to reach the emotions or passions of others.
d) We must not use our eyes in a way that is not good or nice.
e) We must not use the heart and mind to imagine or think about unhappy things, fantasies or unreality.
f) We must not eat or drink or smoke anything between dawn and sunset each day.
_________________________________________________
During the month of Ramadan, we usually fast thirty days, and during the thirty days of fasting we go
through three important periods:
The first ten days:
This is a period of putting the passions in an inactive state. During this period we are made aware that
our passions become weaker and weaker day by day, and on the 10th day of fasting, it is felt that our
passions become completely inactive.
The second ten days:
This is a period of becoming aware that in general our attitude and actions are guided by our inner-
self and the guidance day by day becomes stronger and stronger and on the 20th day of fasting our actions
are as if in a complete latihan state, but in harmony with our daily activities.
The last ten days:
This is a period of receiving the Lailatul Qodar (the Nights of Power), and this is sent by God on the 21st,
23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights of the fast. This Lailatul Qodar is not something that falls from above,
but it forms a certain power which can change our state.
Most of the Subud members who fasted felt, after completing the fast, there were changes to their
inner. Mostly, their spirit to worship God became stronger and also the intention of doing ‘prihatin’
became stronger.

TAK-BARAN: (30th day Ramadan):
The last day of fasting. Sundown marks the end of the month.
IDUL-FITRI: (The Night of Forgiveness):
At the end of Ramadan, we again take a full bath and put on new clothes, and then we should go to our
family and our friends and ask forgiveness for whatever sins we have committed against them. This is a

time of special celebration and thanks to Almighty God.

Note from Jim!
